Kingsmead PE Teacher Leads Pan Disability Lions in International Cricket Series
Kingsmead School is proud to share that our PE teacher, Mr Paul Allen, was recently appointed as Head Coach of the Pan Disability Lions for a three-match T20 cricket series against India. This mini-series took place in Budleigh Salterton, Devon, and served as a warm-up event ahead of the England Men’s Pan Disability IT20 Vitality Series (full details here).
The series ran over three days:
- Monday: Full training day with the squad
- Tuesday: First T20 match against India
- Wednesday: Two back-to-back T20 matches to complete the series
Although the Lions lost all three games, the experience was incredibly positive for everyone involved. The players showed clear improvement across all matches, with stronger teamwork, communication, and tactical understanding developing throughout. The final match was particularly close, with the Lions pushing India all the way and demonstrating great determination and growth.
Mr Allen reflected on the experience:
“It was a fantastic opportunity to lead such a passionate and talented group of players. I learned so much about inclusive coaching and how to adapt my practice to meet the diverse needs of the squad. The players gave everything, and it was a privilege to support them on and off the field.”
This coaching role has had a meaningful impact on Mr Allen’s approach to teaching and learning in PE at Kingsmead. He plans to use what he has learned to:
- Further develop inclusive practice in lessons
- Promote adaptive physical education opportunities for all students
- Share knowledge with colleagues to improve provision across the department
Kingsmead School celebrates Mr Allen’s achievement and the values of resilience, teamwork, and inclusion that this international experience represents. We look forward to seeing how these insights will shape and inspire PE across the school community.
