Celebrating VE Day at Kingsmead School
Kingsmead Schools pupils and staff had a wonderful time commemorating VE Day (Victory in Europe Day) with a special celebration.
Our students enjoyed a picnic where they toasted marshmallows and took part in a fun picture trail. They also played traditional games from 1945, giving everyone a glimpse into how children celebrated back then. The whole school came out and celebrated which was lovely to see, despite the cold conditions!
As part of the VE Day activities, we are proud to be taking part in the VE Mail initiative, which connects children with surviving World War Two veterans through letter writing. We were honoured to receive a letter from a VE Day veteran who shared their personal story about World War II and the significance of VE Day. Our students are now writing letters in response to thank the veteran for their service and sacrifice.
It’s been a meaningful way for us all to connect with history and remember the courage of those who came before us.
